Struggling with heartburn is something that is becoming more and more common, often due to stress, poor diet and nervousness. Fortunately, this does not mean that we have to suffer without being able to do something about it.
Home remedies to relieve heartburn

Because even though many people believe that “everyone has heartburn,” there are some remedies, which most people have at home, that can relieve heartburn.

Heartburn information

Heartburn can be experienced as a burning sensation in the esophagus, just behind the chest. Other symptoms include a sour or bitter taste in the mouth, similar to what one may experience before vomiting. It can also make it difficult to eat or drink, and some people also experience pain when eating or drinking.

Heartburn is caused by stomach acid entering the esophagus. The pain often begins in the chest area and can spread to the neck, jaw or neck. About a third of the population will experience heartburn once a month. Possible causes can be:

  • Having eaten too much food or drunk too much alcohol.
  • Having had a full stomach for a long time.
  • Having skipped breakfast.
  • Having eaten a lot of fatty or spicy foods.
  • Pregnancy.
  • Older people over 60 years.
  • Severe obesity.

There are some simple tips that can reduce the incidence of and relieve heartburn. First and foremost, it is important to avoid foods that cause an overproduction of stomach acid such as coffee, alcohol, sauces, spicy and fried foods.

It is also recommended that you avoid lying down if you experience symptoms of heartburn. The reason is that if one lies flat, it is easier for the stomach acid to “float” up into the esophagus.

If you often have heartburn and are struggling with such symptoms, it is important to see a doctor. This is because heartburn can be caused by  stomach ulcers. If this only happens occasionally, you can use natural medicine or antacids that can be bought at the pharmacy.

Foods that reduce stomach acid production
